Jang Su-yeon took the sole lead on the first day of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour Sangsangin-Hankyung Wownet Open (total prize money of 1.2 billion won).

Jang Su-yeon swept nine birdies and tied two bogeys in the first round of the tournament held at South Springs Country Club (par 72, 6,634 yards) in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province on the 17th, shooting a 7-under 65 to take sole possession of the lead.

She is one stroke behind the joint second place winners Jeon Ye-seong, Ko Ji-woo, and Son Ye-bin (all with 6-under 66).

Jang Su-yeon, who has four wins on the KLPGA Tour, has not added a win in about two and a half years since the 2022 Lotte Rent-a-Car Women's Open.

He has four top-10 finishes this season, his best being a tie for fourth at the Daebo House D Open last month.

Having finished in the top 40 in the last two tournaments, the Hite Jinro Championship (tied for 46th) and the Dongbu Construction/Korea Land Trust Championship (tied for 40th), he has started his challenge for the championship again.

On this day, when the start of the first group was delayed by an hour due to fog, Jang Su-yeon, who started playing from the 10th hole (par 4), took the top of the leaderboard with a flurry of birdies on the 16th to 18th holes and the 3rd to 6th holes.

Jang Su-yeon said, "I've played in many tournaments at South 파워볼사이트 Springs and I know the course very well, so I had no trouble tackling it. So I played with confidence and got good results," adding, "I played easily because I made fewer mistakes of missing the green for the first time in a while."

He said, "I've improved this year compared to last year, but there are still some tough times as I'm turning 30. I think I can do better if I can just build up my physical strength," and expressed his determination by saying, "I've had a good start to the first round, so I'll keep my momentum and play with confidence."

Following Jang Su-yeon and three others in a tie for second place, 11 people, including Lee Ga-young and Hong Hyun-ji, tied for fifth place (5-under 67), formed a tight top group.
